7+7

The 7+7 Method for Professional TV Writers

Too many TV projects get stuck between idea and execution. You know there’s something there, but can’t see why it won’t move forward.

The 7+7 Method fixes that. It’s a focused toolbox that takes you from a promising idea to a season that works.

Made for writers and professionals who already know story — and want the tools to create shows strong enough to last, sharp enough to matter, addictive enough to keep audiences coming back.

The Method

Here’s how the 7+7 Method works: two sevens — the first builds your concept, the second breaks your season.

Each stage comes with a practical tool to show you exactly where you are and whether you’re still on the right path.

Work through them all, and you’ll leave with a deeper understanding of how to write for television — and a project you can actually take out into the world.

The method becomes real in the workshops — here’s how.

About me

I’m György Baráthy — a Berlin-based Hungarian, working writer, story editor, and accidental method-maker.

25+ years in theatre and TV. Over 30 HBO writing credits. Alumni of Sundance, Serial Eyes, Torino Series Lab, and Midpoint TV Launch.

I’ve been in writers’ rooms, sold pilots, adapted formats, and rewritten late into the night. I’ve also taught and mentored at labs and film schools. Over time, I realized we were all stumbling in the same places. I began mapping them, turning instinct into structure. From there, the method was born.

It is the toolbox I wish I’d had. And I’m glad to share it with you.

Who is 7+7 method for?

Students at Film Schools

The 7+7 Method provides students with practical tools and a shared vocabulary, so they leave with a clearer sense of what the industry is really asking for.

For Writers from Other Backgrounds

If you’ve worked in film, theatre, or prose, TV can feel like a different planet. The 7+7 Method translates your existing skills into serial storytelling — without losing your voice.

For Industry Professionals

Producers, execs, and story editors use 7+7 to give sharper notes, avoid vague “I like/don’t like” feedback, and diagnose problems before a show gets lost in development hell.

Workshops — How they work?

Available online or in person. Every workshop uses writers’ room techniques, creative hacks, and the tricks I’ve learned or shamelessly stolen.

Short version — Learn the Method

We create a fictional series together and run it through the 7+7 Method step by step. You see exactly how it works without the pressure of your own project.

First Seven (Build the concept)

1 day

Second Seven (Break the season)

1 day

Book one or both for a two-day deep dive.

Full version — Develop Your Show

We put your series into the method and work it through in full detail. This is real development, with room for exploration and rewriting.

First Seven (Build the concept)

2 days

Second Seven (Break the season)

2 days

Or block out a full week for the entire process.

Focused Workshops

If you want to take the method further

Adaptation / IP Workshop

Focused on the Craft of Adaptation

The 7+7 Method, applied to what the market wants most: adaptations. Novels, films, true stories, biographies, international formats.

This workshop looks at the principles behind every strong adaptation — what must stay, what can change, and how to balance loyal audiences with new ones.

It’s about developing the mindset to work with someone else’s material while still making it speak in your voice.

Character Workshop

Focused on Building a Series-Worthy Protagonist

The 7+7 Method, applied to the craft that decides whether a show survives: a protagonist built for longform storytelling.

We look at the principles behind a strong TV character — relatability, duality, the wound, and the way supporting roles echo or oppose the lead.

The goal is to shape characters who don’t just work in a pilot, but generate choices and conflict across a whole season and beyond.
